New Administrative Center on the municipal hall site in Kehl

Together with Strasbourg, the city of Kehl forms an urban area that spans two countries, where European culture is an integral part of everyday life. The construction of a new administrative building here on the municipal hall site also creates the opportunity for modern working conditions for the city's administration employees. The design envisions a punctiform, seven-story structure that intersects with a one- and three-story structure, which connect to form a polygonal footprint.

The plan forms a coherent ensemble by referencing elements of the classical historic town hall. In addition, the prominent new urban structure creates a visual link with the city fabric defined by the Baden architect Friedrich Weinbrenner (1766-1826). From the second floor, the structural concept is a wooden hybrid skeleton construction. Inside, the three base floors offer extensive space for interactions and informal communication. The first floor is publicly accessible from three sides, and the interior provides citizens with a vast, open point of contact. A multifunctional citizens' hall with a foyer that leads to a roof terrace is designed for the top floor.
