Municipal Music School in Hamm

The existing music school building from 1972 is located on an exposed urban corner where two main roads, Nordring and Ostenallee, meet. Together with the neighboring library building, it constitutes an uncommon urban spatial situation. Located on the threshold to an area of heterogeneous development, the music school offered an opportunity to establish a new identity for this relatively diffuse part of the city.

The expansion of the music school, which fuses with the existing building both functionally and structurally, consists of an extension to the existing building, which was originally square, and an added story that has a concave, draped roof and boldly cantilevers out over the entry forecourt.
