New Schulstraße High School in Berlin, 3rd prize

In the Wedding district of Berlin-Mitte, an academic high school with gymnasium is to be built according to Berlin’s innovative pedagogical model of a compartment school. Our design, which was awarded 3rd prize, envisages a clearly defined form in modular hybrid timber construction for the new building: Through their gradation in height, two blocks, angled slightly toward each other and connected by a low-rise section, enter into a dialogue with the surrounding landmarked buildings of the Jewish hospital to the north and the former local elementary school to the south. The street space of Schulstraße is thus newly defined, as is a generous entry court.
