Bildungscampus West – Plot F

The education campus in the heart of Heilbronn is home to a wide range of educational and scientific institutions whose offerings range from traditional university studies and dual (work-study) programs to continuing vocational education, entrepreneurship, and research programs. Plot F forms a significant prelude to the education campus with an ensemble of three building sections joined by a shared public base zone. This base, which contains a café, a bakery, exhibition spaces, and lobby areas, links the indoor and outdoor spaces and closely integrates the facility with its surroundings. A tower sets a vertical accent that will become a landmark on the campus skyline.

The project combines architectural quality with ecological, social, and economic sustainability. It is designed for long-term versatility. Making use of recycled-aggregate concrete, its modular, hybrid timber load-bearing structure enables flexible use, adaptability, economical construction processes, and subsequent reuse. The project’s sustainability concept adheres to a low-tech approach, incorporating natural and cross ventilation, night purging, thermal storage mass, and photovoltaics integrated into the roof and facade elements. The design blends diverse components into a harmonious whole, creating an inviting and dynamic architectural ensemble that fosters a vibrant academic community. With an emphasis on openness and transparency, the architecture contributes significantly to the vitality of the campus. Shared atriums, workspaces, and interconnected lecture and seminar areas promote communication and flexibility.
