Lessing High School, 3rd prize

A new district with residential quarters, cultural facilities, and infrastructure is being developed on a sprawling conversion site. As one of the last components, a high school with 4 parallel classes per grade level and 2 triple gymnasiums is planned. Our concept envisages a low-profile, three-story layered building whose articulation clearly indicates the individual learning clusters. In front of the learning clusters are spacious terraces that provide access to the recess areas on the grounds. The terraces are also integral to the escape route concept via the exterior galleries.

Inside, an elongated atrium allows for good orientation throughout all the levels. The open stairs are arranged in a way that enables them to also partially serve as spectator bleachers for the events area, which opens up to the atrium at a central position. One triple-court gym is integrated into the building, while the other is assigned to the vocational school opposite. All the roofs are extensively covered with photovoltaic elements.
